Dr. Allard,

It was a pleasure meeting with you and discussing your plans for land conservation and wildlife protection. Your land parcels look to be excellent beginnings. Our goals are one and the same. I understand the startup difficulties that you encounter. We look forward to cooperating with you in the future. Feel free to ask for help. We all appreciate you generous donation, especially in these hard economic times.

In answer to your specific question regarding land taxation and public access: Audubon has always had a good relation with municipalities and to my knowledge has not been subject to taxation. Audubon has extensive land holdings in the state of Massachusetts. Only a small percentage of these are appropriate for public visitation. Especially those parcels with large wetland or critical species habitat areas, such as the ones your organization owns, are not open to the public at large, but instead are selectively open for research and special programs, etc.

Wishing your organization the best of luck,

Bob Wilber
Director of Land Protection
